Corus is an international metals group, which provides steel and aluminium solutions to customers worldwide. Combining international expertise with local service, the Corus brand represents a mark of quality and strength.
Corus was formed in October 1999 from the merger of British Steel and Koninklijke Hoogovens.
Headquartered in London, Corus is listed on the London, New York and Amsterdam stock exchanges. It comprises four divisions and a speciality portfolio with manufacturing operations in many countries. Major plants are located in the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Norway and the USA; the company has sales offices and service centres all over the world.
Corus’ annual turnover is in excess of £7,000 million. The company produces some 17 million tonnes of steel a year, positioning itself as Europe’s third largest steel producer. It also produces some half a million tonnes of rolled and extruded aluminium products a year. Net expenditure on research and development in 2002 amounted to £65 million.
Corus employs around 51,000 people worldwide, 25,000 of whom are in the UK, 12,000 in The Netherlands and 6,000 in Germany. Its main markets are in the construction, automotive, packaging, engineering, metal goods and energy industries.
Corus is represented in the Middle East by Corus International, its wholly owned business unit. Our own in-house logistics teams are expert in consolidating materials from multiple sources, arranging multiple packaging and ensuring that they arrive on time, in good condition and at the desired destinations, wherever this is in the world. Our logistics specialists regularly manage production, processing, quality assurance, inspection, documentary requirements and customs clearance formalities. This all adds up to a complete managed supply solution.
Being a large multinational group, Corus can draw on considerable internal resources including technical support, expertise in export finance and currency transactions, and access to one of the world's most comprehensive range of metals, including carbon and alloy steels, stainless steel and aluminium. This ensures that customers receive the best possible advice and support.
Corus project teams recognise early on customers’ needs and priorities. These can cover anything from the simple requirement of a range of different products, supplied as total package either ex-mill or ex-stock, to a more comprehensive service. In the latter case, the service might consist of a combination of elements such as single point contact management, expediting, specialist packing, shipping, documentation, local “in-country” support and financing - as appropriate.
In between, there are many demands for other different packages. Typically, they might include requirements for extra processing or value added services with technical expertise and support or complex product and supply mixes involving multiple sourcing from different locations and countries. Other customers may seek demanding logistics control, involving multiple handling of products and the arrangement of fast-track shipments within specific time schedules. The variations are infinite.
It is by combining the expertise and service innovatively and effectively that Corus is able to offer their customers a tailored metals solution, whatever the sector, customer or project.
